UWANDAE EXPO2019 Press conference & Documentary launch
Today, Mary Kalikawe (Chairperson AWOTTA), Jacqueline Maleko (Chairperson TWCC) and Geofrey Tengeneza (Head of Public Relations TTB) launched the UWANDAE EXPO2019 documentary at a press conference held at the TANAPA (Tanzania National Parks Authority) offices, Dar es Salaam.
Tengeneza expressed his appreciation to Kalikawe for coming up with the idea to hold a Domestic Tourism Exhibition in Tanzania for the first time. Since the strategic plan for domestic tourism was launched, TTB had been looking to someone in the industry to take this initiative to the next level. Kalikawe’s and AWOTTA’s knowledge and extensive network, plus their partnership with the TWCC, have proved the perfect fit to meet the expectations and goals of the TTB and the Ministry for Natural Resources and Tourism, Tanzania.
Kalikawe spoke about the importance of Regional Commissioners to consider establishing local attractions to draw visitors into their towns, and (for example) putting up signposts on the highways to entice travellers to stop and visit them during their journey. She emphasised that such initiatives would not only expand domestic tourism, but bring additional revenue into towns and create more job opportunities for its residents.
Maleko gave an insight into domestic tourism and asked that all Tanzanian residents and people living in the country enjoy the wonderful tourism attractions that the nation has to offer. She shared information about TWCC’s collaborations in support of AWOTTA’s initiative and providing assistance in organising this inaugural exhibition. Maleko also encouraged Regional Commissioners to take advantage of this unique opportunity to exhibit their regional attractions, and for businesses to showcase their products and services for the domestic traveller. The general public (who are all potential customers for this market) are anticipated to attend UWANDAE EXPO19 on mass during the weekend of 16-17th February.
The media launch was attended by TV channels, TBC1, Channel 10 and ITV; as well as newspaper and blogs representatives (see below).

Sporting venues, Dar es Salaam
Mary Kalikawe, accompanied by Marius Mwijage, visit sporting venues across Dar es Salaam to discuss exhibiting at UWANDAE EXPO2019, and tap into the growing number of Tanzanian residents who travel to the city to watch their favourite teams.
Sports tourism is the fastest growing sector of the global tourism industry, and is forecast to grow substantially within domestic markets with the emergence of the ‘experience economy’.
The use of sports to market communities and regions is a popular strategy, and Tanzania is fortunate to have a mixture of first class stadiums and golf courses to draw tourists in. Sports is becoming an important driver in the country and outside football, Tanzanians are looking to athletics, weightlifting, boxing, handball, basketball, rugby and cricket for entertainment.
